Smart Shopping campaigns are changing to Performance Max starting July 2022

Google Ads announced today that they are modifying Smart Shopping campaign as of July 2022 and will be changing them to performance max campaigns. Once this change is made, advertisers will no longer be able to create new Smart Shopping campaigns.

Performance Max is a newer form of Google advertising that spreads advertisers paid ads across search, display, shopping, YouTube, Discover, Gmail, and Maps.

This change will take control from the advertiser and push paid advertisers into more automated forms of advertising. This change will also spread paid ads across Google’s entire collection of advertising options instead of just on Google’s shopping platform.

Google states that performance max campaigns can increase advertisers’ conversions compared to traditional advertising campaigns.
